nicaragua 02

As many of you know, I have spent the last week in Nicaragua.  I went with 21 other guys to work with and organization called Chosen Children’s Ministries.  This was my second time in Nicaragua and again my life was changed.

I struggle to put into words the poverty that exist in this country.  Just being there for a week drains you physically, mentally, and emotionally.  In the picture above, I had just stepped out of the back of our bus.  Before I got out, I grabbed a hand full of candy from my bag.  When the kids saw the candy, they mobbed me.  They were yelling and pulling on my shirt.  Each and every face broke my heart.  They were hungry, thirsty, and willing to take whatever I was handing out.  I gave out what I had and watched as they stepped away, sharing their candy with one another.

I couldn’t help but think about my own children and how they would have reacted in that situation.  Had they been fortunate enough to get one of the pieces of candy I was handing out, they would have ran and hid it or eaten it real quickly before they had to share it.  While observing, I realized that those with the least are the most giving.

“The one who gives to the p

oor will not be in need, but the one who turns his eyes away will receive many curses.”  Proverbs 28:27
