We here at the Lankford house are getting into the Christmas spirit.  Bernard, our family elf, has made his annual appearance and the kids wake up every morning and look for him.  This tradition was started last year and offers a lot of fun for all of us.  We have also started making our Christmas list and shopping for the desired gifts.  Our countdown calendar is out and the days are being marked off as we close out each day.

My prayer every year is that in some way, we push back the tendency to become engulfed in the materialistic and selfish promotions offered us and truly celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.  I want my family to celebrate the best news ever told.  “Don’t be afraid.  I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide:  A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master.”(Luke 2:10-11; The Message)  The angels brought this news to the shepards who were standing watch over their sheep.  The Message then says, “They left, running, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby.” (v.16)  This news was so significant for humanity that the shepards dropped everything and ran to see this Christ child.

My prayer is that as we journey through this 08 Christmas Season, we to recognize the significance of this news and drop everything else to embrace and celebrate the birth of our Savior!
