Happy Father’s Day

Today, I want to dedicate my blog posting to my father.  Monty Lankford has dedicated most of his life to raising and providing for my mother, 4 siblings, and I.  He lead our family with direction and purpose.  He remained consistent in reading the Word of God to our family and lived it out in his daily life.  I remember as a child being amazed by what I watched him do.  Whether he was riding a horse or building a business, he always appeared to have everything under control.

My dad taught me how to love and care for a woman.  He always protected my mother and stood beside her no matter what the ground seemed to be doing underneath them.  He would always tell her, “Shalia, you are a beautiful woman!”  Then he would look in the back seat and say, “Isn’t your mom beautiful boys?”  We would roll our eyes and say, “yeah dad, she is beautiful.”

My dad taught me how to love my children and verbally communicate that to them daily.  Dad would tell us everytime he saw us that he loved us.  He didn’t let that love keep him from spanking our rears when we needed it.  I grew to admire his resolve for raising good, respectable, children who loved the Lord.

When I was 21 years old, I went to work for my dad.  It has almost been 10 years now and I have only grown to admire him more.  My admiration has grown by watching him be the same person at work that he is at home.  Most people fail miserably with this type consistency.

So on this Father’s Day, I am thankful for the impact of my father in my life.

The older I get, the smarter my father seems to get.” (quote from book “Big Russ and Me”)

Probably one of the greatest “endorsements” I have ever seen. You dad certainly has his priorities in the right place. Thanks for sharing!
